Reißkofel - approach from Egg via Compton Hut

Beautiful day route to the highest mountain of the Reißkofel group in the Gailtal Alps.
Suggestion
The Compton Hut is a wonderful refreshment stop after the strenuous summit climb!
Equipment
Good footwear and hiking poles
Directions
Take the B100 to Greifenburg, then turn onto the B87 towards Weißensee. After the Drava bridge, turn right; after 80 m the sign for Bruggen where a paved road branches off to the left (Kanzian sawmill, Egg). Follow the road and pass through the sawmill. Then a gravel road with driving ban, forest road with access to Eggerhansl. After 4.3 km, keep right towards Egg and park in front of the mountain farm Egg (large radio mast).

Directions

Well-marked family-friendly hiking trail from Egg to the Comptonhütte. The Padiauersteig is marked throughout and somewhat exposed, especially after the Köfeletörl on the ridge, so not for people with a fear of heights and a lack of surefootedness - but a pleasure for experienced mountaineers! If you want to climb the Kleiner Reißkofel (2,158 m) from the Köfeletörl, you can do this in approx. 20 minutes on a marked trail with easy climbing (footholds and steel ropes available).

Location & Arrival

The Nassfeld-Pressegger See holiday destination is located in Carinthia / Austria directly on the border with Italy.
